Connection-Based Parent Coaching

With all the noise, pressure, and conflicting advice -

navigating parenting can be really hard.

I'm here to hold a gentle, supportive space where you can explore and find what truly feels right for you and your family.

Kids do well if they can.

Dr Ross W. Greene

The Sculptor vs The Gardener

As a parent you are tasked with making hundreds of micro (and sometimes macro) decisions every single day. The responsibility can feel overwhelming, as well as lonely sometimes.

There is a huge pressure placed on parents to 'shape' their children. As if you become a sculptor and children are simply lumps of clay waiting to be formed into full people.

I prefer to see the parenting / caregiving role as that of a gardener. We are not there to shape or change who our children are, but instead to offer the environment, care and nourishment for them to grow into their truest selves.

So much parenting advice is focused on what we do TO children.

I want to invite us to try to do less. To think instead about what we can BE for our children.

How can we show up for our children in a way that honours their needs, our needs and our relationship with them?

Harriet is incredibly skilled at what she does, her ability to listen and reflect back to you is nothing short of startling. In three sessions, I experienced huge insight. I will be forever grateful for our sessions and the connections I've made with my body. Thank you Harriet, you are a rare soul.

What is Connection-Based Parent Coaching?

How often do you have a space to honestly and in detail explore all the thoughts, feelings and questions that come up in your parenting and relationship with your little one(s)?

Coaching is a space to really be heard and seen in your parenting journey.

I am here as a gentle, objective and tender source of support for you in the beautiful and rocky seas of navigating parenting.

In sessions, I hold space for you to share whatever is coming up for you. I can offer invitations to explore different perspectives. Then if you want to we can collaborate on creating plans for how you might like to move forward.

We act as co-thinkers together, combining my knowledge and training with your lived experience and instinct about your child, yourself and your family.

I'm not here to tell you the 'right' answers or to 'fix things'.

Because honestly, there is no 'right way'. Your child is not a problem to be fixed. You are not a problem to be fixed.

And once we let go of these ideas, the possibilities open up to us and we can see what's really in front of us.

I'm here to support you to make decisions and show up in your relationships in your family with connection as the goal.

When we feel connected, we feel safer. When we feel safer, cooperation, collaboration and joy can become accessible.

Some faqs

Who did I train with?

I trained with Sarah R. Moore - who is a Master Trainer of parent coaches. Previously working with the Jai Institute, Sarah has set up her own programme, amalgamating her vast experience and training into both a 12 week experiential parent coaching programme, and an intimate and  ICF accredited Certification to become a Parent Coach. Sarah is a brilliant advocate for children and for families and has a great instagram that I highly recommend. My coaching also weaves in much more from my other trainings, practices and lived experience. You can read more about these about here.

What 'parenting approach' do I take?

I chose the name 'Connection-Based Parent Coaching' because I want to keep grounding us back into connection. That is where the growth and ease and magic can happen. Feeling more connected to yourself, your family andooaches I take learnings from: Noncoercive & Collaborative Parenting, Low Demand Parenting, Conscious Parenting, Collaborative & Proactive Solutions, Nervous system informed parenting. You can read more about my trainings, influences and 'knowledge lineage' here.

I chose the name 'Connection-Based Parent Coaching' because I want to keep grounding us back into connection. That is where the growth and ease and magic can happen. Feeling more connected to yourself, your family and your values.

Is this coaching focused on the parent or the child?

Both! This is not a Parent-centric (ie it's all about the parent changing) or Child-centric (ie it's all about understanding the child). It is certianly NEVER about 'fixing' your child or their behaviours. Instead it is about recognising that parenting is a relationship. So we bring a relational lens to everything. And we respond to what is needed and where we are at - sometimes we will focus more on you, sometimes more on your child, sometimes there might be another relationship in your life (such as partner / grandparents / extended family or friends) that becomes important in your parent coaching journey.

What results can you promise from this?

There are no specifc results I can promise. If I did it would be entirely disingenous. We are humans, working with human relationships and young humans. If there were really specific outcomes that were needed (likely behavioural for your child) then there is not a responsive way to promise these. What I can promise is that I will never suggest that you do something that doesn't align with your values, or doesn't work with your family and your family's access needs. I can promise you that I will support you with unconditional positive regard. I know that you want what's best for your family and that you want to feel connected. I'm here to support.

I think I want to experience coaching but I'm not sure...

If you're interested or feeling a sense of openess and curiosity but still not sure, or still have questions then that makes total sense. This stuff is important. Our energy and resources and finances are limited and precious and I really respect being careful and needing to build trust around how you spend these. You are more than welcome to get in touch with me either via email (harriet@tenderlittebeings.com) or to book a chat with me, or if you wanted to try a single session before committing to a longer piece of work together you can check availability here.
