Baby humans are born unable to walk, grip, or regulate their own systems. They are biologically wired to stay close to a caregiver. Their sleep, feeding and waking patterns aren’t disordered – Baby humans are born utterly helpless – they’re designed for survival.

All the things I wish I'd known

We attended a lovely and comprehensive feeling Antenatal group. We talked in depth about birth options, we covered basic first Aid, we talked about breast/chestfeeding and changing nappies. 


But we didn't cover many of the questions that came up as soon as the baby was born. Such as:


  • Why won't he sleep in his cot?
  • Where can he sleep?
  • What do I do with a newborn all day?
  • How do I keep him safe while he's sleeping?
  • Am I connecting with my baby?
  • How do I communicate with him?
  • How do I support a crying baby?
  • How do I support a crying me? 


I say that last one with a small amount of jest, but really not that much because I cried a LOT in the first few weeks/ months. 


And since going on a long learning journey and deep dive into this myself, there is so much I desperately wish I could go back and share with my antenatal and early postpartum self.


For this reason, I have lovingly and carefully crafted all of this into an offering to share with you. 

Harriet taught us so much about baby sleep and we entered parenthood with much more confidence! We learnt to recognise our daughter’s cues and it made becoming first time parents a lot less daunting. Her approach is exactly what I was looking for: gentle and compassionate, and of course effective!

Baby Sleep 

So much of my stress and self doubt in the early days was focused around sleep. Partly because I had no idea what realistic newborn sleep looked like. 


Do you know that newborns don't have a circadian rhythm?
